[ April 22, 2024 ] A much calmer wind did not blow anyone away at the Jasper Farmers Market. In fact if there was a wind it was a simple poof. The vendors and customers were very much focused on the wonderful choices available.

Bark in the Park in Lee Newton Park brought in some extra pooches to stroll the market and to be admired. Produce vendors' offerings included Bok Choy, radishes (radish-i?), garlic scapes from Zach & Meghan, and greens included a Chinese spinach from Chang Family Farms. Plus, so much more! Each week brings more delicious choices of veggies to eat and to grow, like mild jalapeno and yellow squash.

And in this corner... Tumbling Tornado Tony took one cheap shot like a champ! The wind tossed a tent into his face last week, so he was sporting a new look, that thankfully is healing well. That incident didn't deter his sourdough baking skills or sour his attitude. His breads and pizzettas always sell out and invite contenders, like Sellers Sourdough Baked Goods, Bert's Bread, and A Bun in the Oven?

Wait a minute, ... not too sure sourdough is on that table. New vendor, Linda, actually brought the sourdough starter along with her Elderberry expertise. Check out her elderberry kits, so you can have the great health benefits that little berry offers.

By the way, although Lisa Lacheny wasn't here at this past market, she will be back and does she ever have the creative cookie kick! Cookies baked like crayons in a box, rulers, and so many other great delicious ideas. She is constantly Baking to Beat Cancer and your support is greatly appreciated. Your taste buds will thank you as well!

And since the Jasper Farmers Market is sponsored by the Pickens County Master Gardeners, it is only fitting that beyond the pepper plants, you will find plants for your garden. Vendors offer a variety of house and garden plants every week, but next month, May 11th, the PCMGs will be having their annual fundraising Plant Sale in the other parking lot by the Veterans Memorial Park.

The sale will start at 8 am and run until 12:30, so vendors and later FM shoppers have a chance to see what's good for their home gardens. It takes a lot of time and energy for MGs to prepare for their annual sale and the same for setting up. Please, allow the MGs to get their tents, signs, wagons, and specifically, plants, lined up along with parking their cars, vans, & trucks out of the way before the sale starts.
