Basketball Camp let's younger players learn from varsity Dragons then show their skills in 3-on-3, free throw, other contests

The Dragon Basketball camp held the week of June 1st - 4th at Pickens High School saw more than 90 younger players get a dose of the fundamentals from the PHS varsity team and coaches.
The camp, run by the high school coaching staff and the PHS varsity players, is designed to show players, ranging from 1st grade through the middle school, fundamentals of basketball and included three-on-three tournaments and shooting contests.
The younger players (1st -4th graders) camp was held in the old gymnasium at PHS, there were about 40 participants in this age group. The camp for 5th - 8th graders was held in the new gymnasium at PHS and there were about 32 players. There was an afternoon camp for middle school players with 25 participants. Many players in the separate afternoon session also attended the morning session.
Each participant in the Dragon Camp (1st - 8th graders) spent their time first thing in the morning working on the fundamentals at various station activities. Later, the players were divided into teams so they could play three-on-three tournament games.
The future Dragons also competed in a hot shot and free throw competition. The end of the week saw players facing off against each other in a one-on-one tournament.
The players that came to the middle school portion of the camp spent their first forty minutes of each day receiving individual instruction from the varsity high school players.
The middle schoolers were then divided into teams of five and coached by the varsity players for some real game experience.
Everyone who participated in the Dragon Basketball Camp seemed to have a wonderful week and also a great learning experience. The skills the players learned this week will most definitely benefit them in their upcoming basketball seasons.

She has also been involved with the recreation department as a volunteer coach and now serves on the Recreation Board. Katrina is an avid sports fan and loves numerous sports.
