Graves Statement On May Unemployment Report
Share

6/3/2011 - (Washington, DC) – U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-09) issued the following statement on the Department of Labor’s May Unemployment Report that showed the jobless rate rose to 9.1 percent:

“Today’s unemployment figures bookend a tough week of economic news for America. It’s an even tougher week for those who are looking for jobs. For years, House Republicans have been clamoring for jobs initiatives that promote private sector growth, lower taxes, and fiscally responsible governance. We’ve been ignored by President Obama and Senate Democrat leaders while they’ve implemented a toxic brew of deficit spending, more regulation, and higher taxes. The Labor Department’s report today says two things: economic growth is grinding to a halt, and the President’s policies have failed.

“Since the President and Senate Democrats wield the power in Washington, the question they must answer now is, will they double down on failure or choose a new path for this country? If they haven’t already, the promoters of big government need to take a hard look in the mirror and decide if their politics matter more than the millions of people who remain unemployed.”
