(UPDATED) Qualifying for Municipal General Election for the City of Jasper, City of Nelson, and Town of Talking Rock began Monday, August 21, 2017. Jasper and Nelson qualified through August 25th and Talking Rock closed on the 24th. Below is candidates qualified, election dates, and qualifying information.

**According to the Georgia Constitution, Mike Haviland vacated his Council seat when he qualified to run for Mayor.

Article II, Section II, Paragraph IV
The office of any state, county, or municipal elected official shall be declared vacant upon such elected official qualifying, in a general primary or general election, or special primary or special election, for another state, county, or municipal elective office or qualifying for the House of Representatives or the Senate of the United States if the term of the office for which such official is qualifying for begins more than 30 days prior to the expiration of such official's present term of office.

October 10 ~ Last Day to Register for November 7th Election

October 16 - November 3 ~ Advanced voting held on Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Pickens County Board of Elections and Registration office.

November 7 - Election Date


QUALIFYING INFORMATION

Qualifying will be held at the Pickens County Board of Elections and Registration office located at 83 Pioneer Rd, Jasper, Georgia 30143. The office will be closed 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for lunch.

Dates: August 21 - 25
Fee: $35
Requirements:
- Resident of Georgia for 2 Years
- Live in the city limits for at least a year
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must be registered to vote

The Election Day Precinct will be open at Jasper City Hall from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Should a runoff election be required, such runoff will be held on December 5, 2017.

- Live in the city limits for at least a year
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be registered to vote
