Oh, it's been years since a member of the Pickens Community Service Club (PCSC) served a low, hot drive over the volleyball net or executed a touchdown-stopping tackle against a PHS opponent on the football field. However, as fall sports get underway locally, PCSC is much involved with the Pickens High School's programs.

Members of PCSC are already operating the concession stand on behalf of the PHS volley ball teams having worked at two games last week. At a request to offer support for the football program, the club plans to man the visitors'-side concession stand at home football games when those begin,.

Why are members willing to spend time in this manner?

Number one, it allows the club to live up to its motto of "Families Serving Families" as funds from the concession stands benefit children in the sports programs--children of local families.

Number two, it provides an opportunity to interact with students and their family members; sometimes those are friends seldom seen otherwise.

Number three, the chance to "peek in" on the game itself is exciting! Number four, some PCSC members themselves have relatives engaged in the sport-reason enough to dish up some popcorn and a drink.

For whatever the reasons, PSCS is pleased to serve Pickens County in this manner. The organization wishes the PHS athletes, their coaches, their families, and the school itself a successful and fun-filled 2017 season.

The Pickens Community Service Club meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. A family-style meal is enjoyed. Visitors are welcome, and new members are sought.
