Joeta Youngblood Announces Candidacy For Pickens School Board Post #2

3/7/2018

My name is Joeta E. Youngblood and I am honored to formally announce my candidacy for Pickens School Board Post #2. As a resident of Pickens County for nearly 18 years, I would appreciate the opportunity to serve my community.

A strong public school district is essential to the future of not only students, but the entire community and country. Pickens County has a long history of educational excellence. I moved to Pickens County in 2000 to work at Tate Elementary as the media specialist, I later worked in the same capacity at both Pickens Elementary and Jasper Middle School. During my 16 years as a Pickens county educator I have also had the privilege of serving as both an assistant principal and principal at Hill City Elementary. I retired from Pickens County school district after 36 years as a public educator. Currently, I am the part time site administrator for Mountain Education Charter High School.

I have three adult children and two grandchildren. My oldest granddaughter will be a Pickens County kindergartener in 2018 school year.

A school board member should advocate for the best interests of all students in the district. I feel it is vitally important to meet the academic needs of the student population by providing a quality education in a safe school environment. It is also important that the district is run in the most financially responsible manner that is possible. Our taxpayers deserve to have their money allocated fairly and responsibly without undue burden. Teachers and all staff need to know that their contributions to the education of the children of Pickens County is recognized, valued, and respected.

This community deserves a school board that will invite your input, meet you with transparency and honesty, and represent your interests. Our children deserve a standard of education that will allow them to succeed. Parents and all stakeholders should have an equal voice in the direction of our school district and know that their input is essential to the continued growth of the school system. I want my community to know that I can be trusted with this precious responsibility of school board member.

I am asking you, my friends and neighbors, for a chance to do my part.
