Weapon Threat at Pickens County Schools Not Credible
Social media post of student stated a plan to bring a weapon to the high school
UPDATE [11.9.18 5:57 AM ] -
After discussing last night’s investigation with the Sheriff, we have determined that the social media threat is not credible. However, in an abundance of caution, there will be an increased security presence on the High School campus today. We would like to thank the Sheriff and his staff for their vigilance in addressing this matter.
More details posted on Pickens Sheriff Office's Facebook page:
Our detectives and school resource officers worked through the evening and into the night investigating the social media post that has caused concern. Through their investigation they have found that there does not appear to be any threat to the school. The post was between two high school students having a disagreement and both of those individuals have been identified and interviewed. No direct threat was made.
We commend the students and parents for remaining diligent to say something when they saw a concerning post. This allowed our office to thoroughly investigate the concerns and verify that no direct threat exists.
As a follow up to the investigation, we will have an additional presence at the Pickens High School today to help ease any concerns that may exist with students and parents.
