Highland Rivers Donates to Toys for Tots

Richard Wilson (center right), Pickens County Toys for Tots coordinator, is surrounded by staff from Highland Rivers Health and the more than 100 toys and games donated by staff at the agency's Pickens Clinic and Highland Recovery Center on Roland Road in Jasper. This is the second year Highland Rivers staff in Pickens have donated toys, filling more than two of the large Toys for Tots donation boxes each year.

The effort is organized by John 'JT' Turner (center left, in white hat), house manager and community outreach coordinator at Highland Recovery Center men's program, for whom the donation is both personal and professional.

"I was one of those kids that grew up without getting toys at Christmas because there just wasn't enough money," Turner says. "The staff at Highland Rivers wants to take care of the communities we serve, and we want to make sure as many kids as possible have something special to open on Christmas morning."
