 Harold Cantrell, Mayor Weaver & Jasper City Council | CITY OF JASPER
PROCLAMATION
BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council would like to recognize the service of Harold Cantrell to the City of Jasper;
WHEREAS, Harold Cantrell is a lifelong resident of Pickens County, the oldest of nine siblings, born September 29, 1945 to Harley and Trula Cantrell;
WHEREAS, after graduating from Pickens County High School in 1963, Harold Cantrell served as a Special Deputy for Pickens County under Sheriff Bill Ray;
WHEREAS, his service to the Pickens County Sheriff's Office included chasing moonshiners as they fled their operation from 1965 until 1967, for which his talent and success was duly recognized;
WHEREAS, after working in the private sector for several years, Harold Cantrell returned to public service as a Deputy for the Pickens County Sheriff's Office from 1978 until 1981;
WHEREAS, Harold Cantrell joined the City of Jasper Police Department as a Criminal Investigator in December 1981;
WHEREAS, after taking a leave of absence to run for the Office of Sheriff, Harold Cantrell joined the City of Jasper Police Department in 1992 as a patrol officer;
WHEREAS, recognizing Harold Cantrell's leadership abilities, he was promoted through the ranks to Lieutenant then Captain until being appointed Assistant Chief of Police in 1995;
WHEREAS, in July 1996, Harold Cantrell was appointed Chief of Police by Council and served honorably in that role until his retirement on December 31, 2010;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council to honor Harold Cantrell for his 29 years of dedicated service to the City of Jasper.
