Jazz in the Church
|Location:||Episcopal Church of the Holy Family is located on Griffith Road, off of Cove Road.|
|Start Time:||3:30 PM|
|Description:||The KSU Jazz Five consists of students playing trumpet, sax, piano, bass, and drums. The group will play a program of traditional and modern jazz repertoire.|
The Kennesaw State University Jazz Combo program was started in 2006 and currently features seven jazz combos and a jazz guitar ensemble. Students in the KSU jazz combo program learn traditional and modern jazz repertoire and are encouraged to find their own voice through writing original arrangements and compositions. KSU Jazz Combos have been featured at the Jazz Education Network national conference; the Georgia Music Educators Association in service clinic in Savannah; the International Festival of University Theatre in Casablanca, Morocco; and multiple performances in Montepulciano, Italy in 2014. In January 2017, KSU’s top jazz combo recorded a set of original music at the Murray Sound Lab for an upcoming release.
Following the concert, the combo will accompany the Holy Family Parish Choir as they present the Durham Jazz Evensong by Will Todd. This jazz setting of the traditional evensong texts was commissioned by St. Oswald's Church, Durham, England and first performed in 2008.
This free concert is a community outreach of the music ministry at Holy Family, and all are invited to hear this special program.
