Don Quixote (Cervantes): BARITONE. MALE 40 +Actor, playwright, and would-be knight. He is a romantic—some sane crazy—and has a vision of a far better and nobler world, where knights and chivalry rule the day. .
Sancho (The Manservant) TENOR, MALE, 20- 50. He has served Quixote/Cervantes for many years and is devoted to him, even with all his idiosyncrasies
Aldonza (Dulcinea): SOPRANO, FEMALE, 20-40’S. Serving woman and a part-time prostitute at the inn, Aldonza is rough on the exterior, but has a gentle heart inside and yearns to believe what Don Quixote tells her.
The Innkeeper (The Governor): BASS, MALE 25+. A large and powerful man, he is kind as the Innkeeper, but as the Governor is the leader of the inmate society in the prison.
Dr. Carrasco (The Duke): BARITONE, MALE 25+. As the character of the Duke he sidekick to the Governor; however, when he plays Dr. Carrasco, he is Antonia’s fiancé. He thinks Don Quixote mad and insists that he come home and be treated for his malady. Becomes the Knight of the Mirrors
Antonia: SOPRANO, 20+. Quixote’s niece and Dr. Carrasco’s fiancée.
The Barber: TENOR, MALE, 20+. Comic character, solo song + possible chorus part.
The Housekeeper: MEZZO, 20+.
The Padre: MALE, TENOR, 25+. The family priest.
Ensemble: Captain of the Inquisition, Attendants to the Knight, Muleteers, Guards, Men of the Inquisition
NON SINGING: Innkeeper’s wife, 30+, Captain of the Inquisition, 30+
Vocal auditions may be by accompaniment on CD, cell phone, etc. Auditioners may be asked to attempt to sing a song from the show, so familiarity with them is a plus. A piano accompanist will be available. Auditioners will be checked on vocal range. Cold reading from the script will also be required.
If you cannot make either or these dates, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org and the director will contact you. There are several good female roles and a large number of male roles... lead, supporting and chorus. Minimal choreography required.
