|Description:||Cherylís Place is striving to decrease the impact of homelessness on children. Named for Cheryl Blankenship. Cheryl's Place is a supportive housing program for homeless families with children in Pickens County. It will provide temporary housing and training needed by families to become stable, obtain permanent housing, and become self-sufficient. The program is planning to open the doors fall of 2018.|
Qualifications for the program include 30 days of residence in Pickens County, and at least one adult with at least one child under the age of 18. Candidates must be willing and able to work, or otherwise have a short path to self-sufficiency, must pass a background check and drug test, have transportation, childcare and agree to receive one on one daily counseling, mentoring, and support for up to 60 days.
Cherylís Place has been gifted a facility to use as temporary supportive housing. However, it requires moderate repairs in order to provide safe and suitable living quarters. We are in need of donations of materials, labor and funds for supplies in order to make these repairs and improvements.
Many local churches and organizations have developed plans committed to provide these critical services for our community. In spite of this, further support and volunteers are needed to complete these goals. We are in need of volunteers who are skilled in fundraising, grant writing and mentoring.
Regular meetings are the first Monday of the month.
