MORE INFORMATION

Patriot Day, observed on September 11, 2025, an occasion that symbolizes unity within the community. This day serves to honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

Patriot Day is a nationally recognized observance in the United States dedicated to commemorating the victims of the September 11 attacks. It was established following a proclamation by President George W. Bush and has been observed annually since 2002.

On September 11, 2001, coordinated terrorist attacks carried out by al-Qaeda resulted in nearly 3,000 fatalities across the United States. In response, the President proclaimed September 14, 2001, as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the Terrorist Attacks. The subsequent year, September 11 was formally designated as Patriot Day, a National Day of Mourning.

Patriot Day is not a federal public holiday; therefore, government offices, schools, and businesses remain open as usual. On this day, all United States government buildings and establishments display the national flag at half-mast, and individuals are encouraged to do the same at their residences.

We cordially invite the community to attend the Patriot Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park on Thursday, September 11. The event will begin at 11:00 A.M. and provides an opportunity to honor the victims of the September 11 attacks solemnly.

Michael Shea, President of Pickens County Veterans Memorial Park, will deliver remarks and share his reflections during the ceremony.
