MORE INFORMATION
The Ferst Readers of Pickens County is a 501(c)3 non-profit public foundation which "Provides books to Pickens County pre-school children to prepare them for reading and learning success".
Pickens County is one of 80 Georgia communities that participates in this program.
The books are mailed on a monthly basis free of charge to each registered children from birth until five years of age. Each child receives an age-appropriate book with literacy support materials which includes a parent newsletter with tailored reading guides and child activity pages, all specially designed to make reading fun for the whole family.
The Ferst Foundation program eliminates the key reason why parents do not read to their child - the availability of quality books in the home.
The Program goals include encouraging children to learn through reading and promoting parent/family involvement in achieving early school success for their children.
Ferst Readers of Pickens County has mailed out over 100,000 books since they started in May of 2009. Over 70% of ALL Pickens County children under the age of five are on this program. They are always looking for more.
Although the program is FREE to the parents, there is a cost of $3.00 per child per month which covers the cost of the book, mailing and literacy support materials. Pickens FERST is an all-volunteer organization. All money raised here; stays here.
Remember...SCHOOL SUCCESS BEGINS WITH FERST!
Won't you considering supporting one child for one year for only $36.00? Or sponsor a child for all five years for only $180.00!
