City of Jasper Proclamation for Veterans Day

[ November 10, 2020 ] WHEREAS, in 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower established the first Veterans Day to honor United States military veterans for their selfless service to the United States of America, and

WHEREAS, military personnel from all branches of the armed forces have served in hostile engagements throughout the world in support of the liberty that we prize as United States citizens, and

WHEREAS, American men and women proudly served as soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines with valor and selflessness with many making the ultimate sacrifice, and

WHEREAS, our nation is a safer place and the world enjoys more justice because of the service of our armed forces,

NOW THEREFORE, I, Steve Lawrence, Mayor of the City of Jasper, Georgia, do hereby proclaim November 11, 2020, as Veterans Day. I encourage all residents to honor veterans' valor, selflessness, and sacrifice with appropriate public ceremonies and personal prayers.
