[ May 17, 2023 ] After a successful first year organizers are excited to bring ArtWalk Jasper back in 2023, with the first of three dates May 19 from 6-9 pm.

ArtWalk Jasper is an exciting evening or arts and culture in downtown Jasper in Pickens County.

Juried visual artists are placed inside businesses to display their work. The event also features live music, an outdoor artists vendor area, performance art, food trucks, dining, shopping, and more.

For the May 19 event attendees are invited to dance the maypole in the greenspace on South Main, see live totem pole carving near The Old Jail, and tour The Old Jail and Kirby-Quinton Cabin. Keep Pickens Beautiful will also have a make-and-take postcard stamp station.

"We've added a spring date this year and are excited to play off of the theme," said ArtWalk Jasper Director Angela Reinhardt. "It's exciting to see how much people are looking forward to the event, and how much the arts are being supported in our community. Last year exceeded expectations and we look forward to building on that momentum."

Caleb Wilkie and the Privateers, an alt bluegrass and folk band "that creates a unique sound for Appalachia," will perform at the Pickens County Courthouse lawn.

There will also be music from guitarist/vocalist John Parker Smith at The Old Jail, as well as trumpeter Dr. Carl McCurdy and guitarist/vocalist Andy Thacker playing at separate times on South Main Street near Keep Pickens Beautiful.

Dos Margaritas will be on South Main with their drink station, serving up blood orange ArtWalk Margaritas. The Lunch Box, 4 Way Eatz, and Respados Celeste will be on south main serving up sandwiches, Mediterranean and Mexican, and gourmet Mexican shaved ice.

Maps of the downtown area provide a key that shows which artist is in which business, as well as other happenings during the event. There is no admission fee and many businesses offer complimentary refreshments.

ArtWalk Jasper will return in the fall on Friday, September 22 and Friday, October 27 from 6-9 pm.
