Stay Alert: New Emergency Notifications

[ January 21, 2026 ] Attention Pickens County Residents: With winter weather approaching, ensuring our community is prepared and informed is our top priority. Pickens County has officially transitioned from the CodeRED system to Regroup, our new emergency weather alert platform.

Why the change? While CodeRED served the county for years, a recent cyberattack rendered the system unusable for several weeks. To ensure reliable and cost-effective communication moving forward, the county has moved to Regroup. This new system offers more flexible notification options-including phone calls, text messages, or both at a significantly lower cost to taxpayers.

What you need to do: Existing subscriber data was successfully recovered and imported into the new system. However, to ensure your information is 100% accurate and that you are receiving the specific types of alerts you prefer, we strongly encourage everyone to create a new account.

New Tool: View Real-Time Road Conditions

Staying informed goes beyond just receiving alerts. In addition to the new notification system, the county has launched a valuable tool for assessing conditions yourself - Pickens County Traffic Camera Dashboard. This resource features live views from key locations across the county, including: Highway 515, Downtown Jasper, and Fire Station 10 & Fire Station 12.

Stay Connected: In addition to signing up for Regroup, please follow the Pickens County EMA Facebook page for real-time updates on road conditions and incoming weather. Staying informed is the best way to keep your family safe during the winter season.

Why was CodeRED discontinued?
During the December 1, 2025, Board of Commissioners work session (Video), Chairman Kris Stancil and EMA Director Dr. Robbie Westbrook detailed the necessity of the switch.

Cybersecurity Breach: CodeRED experienced a cyberattack that shut down the system and rendered it "useless" for approximately a month. During this time, the county was unable to issue local mass notifications, though they still had access to state-level alerts for major events like tornado warnings.

Cost Efficiency: The county was already researching alternatives due to rising costs. CodeRED (owned by OnSolve) quoted a one-year rate of approximately $17,541, whereas the new Regroup system costs only $6,000 per year.

Data Integrity: Despite the cyberattack, the county was able to retrieve uncorrupted subscriber data over a weekend to ensure no residents were lost in the transition.

There is also a Pickens County Traffic Camera Dashboard page featuring views currently from Hwy. 515, downtown Jasper, and Fire Stations 10 & 12. www.pickenstrafficdashboard.com
