Martinmas is the 11th day of the 11th month of the year, and it is the feast of St. Martin of Tours: a man who lead a simple and exemplary life, and who was the first saint to be recognized as a saint (after the apostolic times) who was not a martyr. He was a tireless pastor of souls who brought the Gospel to a rural people, and of him it was said he feared neither life nor death.
November 11th is the memorial of the patron saint of soldiers, Saint Martin of Tours, and it is also the historic date for Armistice Day (the original date for Veterans Day).
