Tate Elementary teachers gathered after school, in the library, for a surprise chance to win a $100 Teacher Reward card from Walmart of Jasper. Ten randomly selected teachers were drawn by Principal, Dr. Deborah Longshore.
The American Federation of Teachers reports an average of a $500 a year is spent by teachers on classroom supplies. Walmart, Sam's Club and the Walmart Foundation launched the Teachers Rewards program, providing more than $4 million to 40,000 teachers across the United States. The program is to help offset the out-of-pocket cost incurred by teachers on classroom supplies.
Each year, an elementary school will be randomly chosen for teachers to receive the Teacher Reward cards, and past winners will be omitted until all schools have benefited.
All the teachers received a school box with supplies and enjoyed cake brought by Stephanie Martin and Kimberly Mower, employees from the Walmart of Jasper.
