Summer Solstice on Mt. Oglethorpe and Soup for the People of Pickens County
6/20/2016 ~ by John Feight
On Monday, June 20, 2016 at 2pm, we’ll celebrate the Summer Solstice at Eagle’s Rest Park on Mt. Oglethorpe. We’re hoping the public will bring soup to be distributed by Cares of Pickens County and once again, stones for the continual build of the Stone Eagle on the southern face of Mt. Oglethorpe.
The Drum Circle of Jasper will fill the air with sounds coming from our past…with an ancient rhythm relating to the beat of our hearts.
Bring your stones…
Through the millennium the bluestones of Stonehenge, New Grange and the Indian mounds of the Americas have marked man’s presence on this earth, so why not men and women…of the present. Leave your mark…your stones…for future generations to wonder about our time on earth. Stones are forever. Come lay your stones…from wherever ye may gather them and take them to the mountain.
You may wish to plan a picnic and enjoy the new Picnic Pavilion on the northeast side of the mountain before the 2pm drumming event.
Soup for the soul…
The soup you bring to the mountain will touch the hearts and souls of those who need not only food, but also your love. They need to know you care…and Cares of Pickens County will provide your love to those who are in want…of soup and love. You can also bring non-perishable food.
You can help keep Mt. Oglethorpe alive by supporting the on-going work at Eagle’s Rest Park.
Please visit the Mt. Oglethorpe Foundation’s website (mtoglethorpe.org) and make a tax-deductible donation.
Come to the mountain to renew your mind, body and spirit.
