During the Pickens County Commissioners Work Session today, Pickens County Fire Marshal, Curtis Clark announced the countywide burn ban which includes campfires, cooking fires (not covered grills), any other kind of outdoor burning, as well as the use of fireworks. This will be in place until there is significant rain in the county.

"Any kind of little spark can cause a major fire. We're asking the people of Pickens County to help us with this, to relieve the issues of us having brush fires or fires that are out of control. The property they save may be their own", said Clark.

A driving factor is a weather front and the National Weather Service issued a RED FLAG (Fire Weather) WARNING in effect from 10 AM to 7 PM EDT Friday, November 4th for gusty north winds and low relative humidity for much of North and Central Georgia.
