Marble Valley Friends BBQ Postponed Until October 6th

NOTICE FROM MARBLE VALLEY FRIENDS: Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are having to postpone our BBQ until Friday, October 6. We hope this will not be too big of an inconvenience for all of our loyal supporters. We will be making phone calls to make sure you still want a plate for Oct. 6.
On Friday, September 29th, Marble Valley Friends will sponsor their fall barbecue chicken fundraiser. Twice annually that historic preservation organization prepares 500 chicken halves to serve or distribute from the Old Tate Gym, the mainstay of its preservation efforts.
Cooks will begin getting the charcoal ready and the chicken on the grills about 3:30 a.m. Inside personnel-servers, ticket sellers, runners from grills to interior, greeters, general "doers-whatever" will be in place by 8:30 a.m. Delivery drivers will be ready to roll by 10:00 a.m. All will be ready for an 11:00 a.m. lunch time to begin. Meals will continue to be served/delivered until 2:00 p.m Then the clean-up begins. That covers the busy segment of the day.
As for the tasteful, that develops as grill persons carefully watch the cooking process, turning laden grills as needed, basting with homemade sauce, and packing in coolers to maintain heat. Again, the inside crew takes over preparing delivery orders, fixing plates for in-house diners, welcoming new and returning hungry guests.
By acting quickly, you can be among those well-fed guests. Grill space limits the day's output to 500 plates. Purchases may be made for dining in the Old Tate Gym, for take-out, or for delivery of at least four plates to the same address. The cost is only $8.00 per plate. The meal consist of 1/2 chicken, baked beans, slaw, bread, and cake. Hence the tasteful aspect is covered.
To insure having the necessary amount of foodstuffs, chicken must be ordered by September 22nd. Orders may be placed with any member of Marble Valley Friends, or by calling Penny Davis at 770-735-2564 or Lawton Baggs at 706- 692-6598 by the 22nd.
Funds raised help with the organization's historic preservation efforts. The public is invited to join the "busy" part of the day if that is one's desire. For sure, they will want to participate in the tasteful part. Such an opportunity will not be available at the Old Tate Gym again until Spring, 2018.
