Amy Gibson Announces Candidacy for Pickens County Tax Commissioner

2/1/2020 ~ by Amy Gibson

Citizens of Pickens County,

My name is Amy Gibson and it is an honor to announce my candidacy for Pickens County Tax Commissioner in the upcoming May 19, 2020, Republican primary.

I am a Pickens County native, daughter of the late Judge D Rodney Gibson and Martha Gibson. I attended Pickens County schools from Kindergarten through my Senior year, and I proudly graduated from PHS as a STAR Student in 1992. I have one son, Evan, that currently attends PJHS. Evan and I are proud to call the Hill City community our home.

I have over twenty years of accounting experience, and I believe my expertise and high moral standard in business would greatly serve our community. In my professional portfolio, I worked my way from cashier up to Branch Manager - mastering many other accounting positions in between. I currently work as an automotive accounting professional. I obtained several accounting certificates from our local college in order to further my career, and the continuing education I received has served me well.

For the position of Tax Commissioner, I do not believe professional success is enough – we need a public servant and a leader. A public servant willing to meet with our citizens and work together for the common good of our community. We need an individual that will represent all citizens fairly, equally, and to the best of their ability. Public Servants should be transparent, available to the public, and have an open-door policy. Merely having experience “at the job” won’t cut it this time around. We need strong leadership and someone not afraid to take on the responsibility of accountability. I am capable and ready to step up and take on that role.

It would be a privilege to serve as your next Tax Commissioner and I humbly ask for your support.

Please join me in an Open House/Meet the Candidate event on February 25, 2020, at the Atlantic Coast Conservancy on Main Street. The event is from 4:00 – 8:00 pm and open to the public at no charge. I would love to meet you, hear your concerns, discuss your expectations, and personally ask for your support.
