Cookout Party for Pickens Veterans
5/10/2019 ~ by Suellen Reitz
Ask any veteran and they will all agree that as a group, they know how to have a good time. Itís no different for Pickens County American Legion Post 149 members... and itís time for their next party!
All veterans of Pickens are invited to the cookout gathering next Saturday at the beautiful Twelve Stones Farm located at 576 Bunch Ct. Talking Rock from 1-4 pm. Twelve Stones Farm hosts the Legion every Spring and Fall for a fun filled afternoon of good food and fellowship. Bring the kids and enjoy the games of corn-hole toss, horseshoes or try catching a fish in the lake next to the covered pavilion
This Spring's gathering will be extra special with the invite extended to all veterans to meet and greet members of the legion and the Pickens Marine Corps League. Itís a great opportunity for fellow veterans to find out about patriotic organizations within the community while enjoying family time. Also invited are members of the Sequoyah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), who have done numerous activities along side the Legionnaires; and Cub Scout Pack 288 and Scout Troop 836, both sponsored by Post 149.
The Scout Troop will preform a US Flag Retirement Ceremony at 1:00 for those present. The symbolic burning of worn flags is done to show honor and respect to our nationís colors and is a very moving event. Once each flag has been reduced to ash, the Scout Master declaresÖ ďshe is goneĒ. Over the years, troop 836 has retired more than 5,000 flags that have become worn and torn.
Come and meet your fellow veterans and enjoy the afternoon with folks who know how to have fun. For more information and directions, call the Legion Hot Line at 706 253-1715 and leave a message. Weíll get right back to you with answers. Hope to see you there!
