Traffic on Highway 53 in Tate to be Detoured This Weekend for Railroad Crossing Maintenance
Update: Repair complete
The railroad crossing east of the Tate House on State Route 53 will be closed Friday, November 22 at 9 a.m. until Tuesday morning, November 26 for maintenance and repairs. Crews are repairing the crossing to make it smoother for vehicles traveling over it.
Motorists will need to detour to reach the other side of the railroad crossing until the maintenance is completed. Local detour suggested is to use McClain Mountain and Cove Roads.
The Georgia Department of Transportation state route detour will take motorists west on SR 53 to SR 515. From SR 515 traffic will head south on SR 372 and then east on SR 369. The detour will continue north on SR 400 back to SR 53.
Due to the detour on Friday afternoon, Pickens County Schools sent out a notification to expect buses along the route to be late.
The repairs are expected to be completed by Monday afternoon, weather permitting.
