At last night's School Board meeting the Pickens County School Board voted to remove the “interim” designation from the Superintendent title and voted unanimously to name Anthony W. “Tony” Young to serve as Superintendent of the district.
Board member Tommy Gartrell stated during discussions prior to the vote that he believes this is an opportunity to “heal some wounds and bring the community back together under very strong and capable leadership.”
Mr. Young will continue to lead the district as he has over the past one and one-half months. He has been a part of the district administration team for several years and says, “It is now more important than ever for us to refocus so that we can move forward and do what we are here to do, which is to provide the best education possible for our students.”
With the close of the school year coming quickly, Mr. Young shared, “We are now in the last quarter of the 2020-21 school year and we want to finish strong. We have faced many challenges over the last twelve months, but our resilient team of teachers, administrators, and other staff continue to overcome them.” He continued, “Our families have also had to endure some tough times as well including juggling online learning responsibilities while trying to keep up their jobs. We know it has not been easy.”
“I am grateful to work alongside people who continue to prove an unwavering commitment to serve our students, their families and our entire community. We will strive to maintain a staff and student focus at the heart of every effort,” said Young.
