Post-traumatic stress disorder leads to an average of 20.6 veteran suicides every day in the U.S.! This situation is considered a "pandemic" by the CDC, yet there is not an effective government or military program to deal with it! Georgia has the 9th highest concentration of veteran's in the nation!
The PTSD Foundation was founded in Houston and is successfully providing a free combat trauma program for hundreds of veterans and their families. Our program is a model for what can happen when the community steps up to support our returning military heroes! Our program continues to grow in Houston and around the country with weekly meetings based on a mentorship program for veterans. We also provide a more focused program that provides Hope and Healing, which includes free interim housing at Camp Hope, for combat veterans and their families.
We now wish to bring this program to the veterans and families of the Atlanta area! We already have two local veteran mentors established in the area that are providing our peer-to-peer program in weekly meetings. The PTSD Foundation will continue to provide assistance to get this program up and running for your veterans, but for this much needed program to be successful it will require the community to "own it". Your veterans need you to step up in support of the local mentors and with outreach to the public for support as well as outreach to the veteran's community so that they are aware of the program and ongoing meetings.
The Foundation is already supported by a number of local and national companies such as Greystar, HD Supply, Sherwin Williams, Ferguson Supply, PPG Paints, The Houston Apartment Association and the Texas Apartment Association.
We look forward to the opportunity to share with you our vision of Hope and Healing for the combat veterans suffering with PTSD in our area!
